New space

09.18.2012

my older sister and i recently made the decision to move our studio space together. her space is much larger and more versatile. mine was tiny, tiny and i out grew it very fast. what i am most excited about is collaborating or just working in the same space as her. she has been a huge inspiration for me growing up and she always seems to have the answer for creative solutions—and hey she is pretty handy!

things are moving quickly and will be all set up in our space very shortly. our biggest challenge is getting out chandler & price pilot old style press moved and working.

we are sharing our space in a studio tour next week for an event put together by the connecticut art director’s club. looking forward to sharing our work in progress.

living in chaos

03.27.2012

it has been one thing after another after another and i haven’t really taken any breaks and i am feeling some much needed leisure coming my way. my apartment went from clean to a complete disaster in one week. doesn’t take much when your workspace is your living and kitchen space. hoping my new little studio will help with that. yes—new studio space for me. yay! part of the reason why i have been so busy, getting it cleaned up and such. can’t wait to use and share all the beautiful things i have planned for it! for now i will live and work in chaos and maybe make some time for a leisure activity.

hey, president & creative director of j.crew,  jenna lyons lives and works in a beautiful chaos, i can too right?

MY KINDA SPACE

03.14.2012

all the spaces posted on the selby are pretty amazing, but the berlin home of illustrator, christoph neimann and art historian and writer, lisa zeitz is one of my faves. such a great space—eclectic but not cluttered.

big red letters. LOVE!

hanging your collections of artwork is a great idea of you have a nice big, blank wall like this.

holy books!

i have a thing for maps, love how this one is being used in the bedroom.

supercool pattern tiling going on. fun idea for a kid’s bathroom.

fit me right in

01.27.2012

i think i would be right at home in this eclectic space. i love how the furniture, walls & floor are all white and chairs, accessories and accent walls bring pops of color.

this looks like a nice cozy corner for reading a book or taking a nap.

that turquoise looks so amazing how it is placed in complimentary areas in the space.

i always dreamed of a patio like this with space with wide open doors.

ok when do i move in?

Creative Walls

12.12.2011

Good morning Monday! Thought I would start this week off with some wall decorating ideas & a mini book review!

As someone who collects and holds on to things, I was happy to come across Creative Walls, How to Display and Enjoy Your Treasured Collections by Geraldine James. There is something nice about using treasured items and things that have meaning to you for decorating the space you live & work in. Creative Walls… shares a glimpse into peoples stunning walls where you will find tons of ideas on how you can spruce up the daunting blank canvas. I love how the book has an “anything goes” policy as long as it is working for you it works and you don’t need anyone’s approval. Works for me : )

My Key Take Aways:

1.) Experiment with unusual things
2.) Find items that can be simply decorative but also have a practical purpose
3.) “If you have a passion indulge it”
4.) Save your concert tickets or any type of tickets they can end up as cool art
5.) I am so happy I started my fridge magnet collection. Makes for a good looking fridge with each one being their own tiny piece of art.
6.) “Whatever you love, let it influence your wall” common threads will emerge when you start to examine what your real loves are.
7.) Experiment & Be Brave
8.) You can create beauty from nothing
9.) Your style is 100% personal & how you create YOUR wall is an expression of yourself.
10.) Makes me feel better about my collections of things & to not stop collecting things & thinking it has no purpose : )

Here is some eye candy…

Pale and Interesting

12.05.2011

These muted & subtle shades from book Pale & Interesting by Atlanta Bartlett & David Coote just make me feel all cozy inside. Although I LOVE color something about decorating with whites and pastels with bits of color is the just the way I like to decorate with color. The book is devoted to the idea of keeping it simple and going back to the basics to create a home that is “calm, easy and unpretentious”…how nice! Why complicate things, right?

Key Take Aways:

1. I need a white Picnic Table
2. Birdcages are pretty cool (without the bird in it for me)
3. Every room needs some color
4. Celebrate the imperfect
5. Express your personality
6. Have a comfy armchair
7. Stay away from trends and pick timeless pieces
8. Explore uses of texture & form to add charm & interest
9. Reuse Repair, Recycle
10. Have fun decorating a personal & unique home
