snap, crackle, pop

growing up i loved cereal & cereal boxes. the packaging was a major selling point—so major! i remember my mom letting me go pick out the cereal for the week & boy did we go through a lot of cereal. some favorites were lucky charms, rice krispies, rice krispie treats cereal, cap’n crunch with berries, cinnamon toast crunch, golden grahamns, cookie crisp—ooooh and frosted flakes—omg i can’t stop naming them i loved so many.  i’m pretty sure i would choose one based on taste and all the other choices were purely what popped off the shelf at me or had that key item that was going to make me excited in the morning to sit with my cereal and look at the back of the box. generic brands didn’t stand a chance and when my mom thought she could sneak one by, she was wrong. like i said packaging was major.

i like to think i was drawn to great design at that age but i think it was purely promotional and entertainment at that time. makes me think twice about “good” design and design that really sells. wanna talk cereal? who were your favorite cereal box icons?
